[...] Although the tin didn’t cost that much, I didn’t buy it because how does one prepare a tin of silkworm pupae for consumption? Scattered over noodles? Sandwiched between two slices of fluffy white bread? Perhaps presented as Steve from The Sneeze suggests – speared with cellophane-frilled cocktail toothpicks? Or maybe like this guy did – nestled in a bed of cheese on a pizza. [...]

[...] Consider this our Bourdain or Bizarre Foods moment. Pupae (”pyoo-pee”—still sounding like a bathroom function) are silkworms, and have a slight crunch with some air pockets. They taste a bit bitter, slightly nutty, and certainly earthy—like something that’s slithered in the sand or somewhere similar. And certainly not popular, at least on this night, as no one else was eating them. Next time, we’ll stick to the chicken. (Though perhaps pupa is better on pizza?) [...]

It's actually a matter of efficiency. When you produce silk, you also produce a lot of dead silkworms. You can either eat the silkworms directly, or you can compost them. Which works better?

Although, frankly, I'm quite disappointed with the taste of silkworms. After more than 5 thousand years of refinement, you'd imagine they'd figure out how to get them to taste decent.

mmmm......bugs. The only way I'll ever eat a bug is if it's small, deep fried, and goes well with beer. I do wonder what do they do with the octopus's body after they serve the legs.....hmmmm
